Waiver Wire Pickups

Brian Hoyer, QB, Cleveland Browns (Owned in 14% of Yahoo! Leagues): Despite having a quite pedestrian game on Sunday (20-of-50 passing for 330 yards with one touchdown and one interception), Hoyer finally gets some relief as Browns wide receiver Josh Gordon returns from suspension is fully expected to play Sunday. The No. 1 WR in fantasy football last season will help pad Hoyer’s stats and give him a great target to throw to. Hoyer is definitely worth consideration as a high-end QB2 going forward.

Mark Sanchez, QB, Philadelphia Eagles (53% Y!): Throwing for 346 yards, two touchdowns and two interceptions, Sanchez’s stats from Sunday’s loss to the Green Bay Packers look better than they really are. Most of it came in garbage time and the whole Eagles team did poorly overall. But because of the offensive scheme and the talent around him, Sanchez is still a low-end QB1 in fantasy football. He has a great matchup in Week 12 against the Titans that could put him right back on track.

Jonas Gray, RB, New England Patriots (19% Y!): The floodgates opened up last night as Gray ran for 199 yards and four TDs against the Indianapolis Colts. He ran on 38 attempts and absolutely controlled the touches in the New England backfield. The obvious replacement for Stevan Ridley (who is he again?) going forward, Gray has high-end RB3 appeal every week and makes for a great flex play as the top RB for the Patriots. He would be great to have with fantasy playoffs happening soon.

Tre Mason, RB, St. Louis Rams (50% Y!): Another week, another great performance for Tre Mason (29 attempts for 113 yards). He became the first running back this season to run for 100+ yards against the Denver Broncos, and is now the unquestioned No. 1 running back in St. Louis. It would be hard to argue against saying that Mason should not only be owned in every league, but also started as a low-end RB2 as well. Go get him.

C.J. Anderson, RB, Denver Broncos (65% Y!): Montee Ball went down on Sunday with a re-aggravation of his groin injury and is reportedly out for two to three weeks, according to Troy Renck of The Denver Post. Ronnie Hillman could be out as many as six weeks, according to ESPN’s Adam Schefter. That leaves C.J. Anderson as the lead back in the Denver Broncos backfield.  Anderson had eight catches for 86 yards and nine carries for 29 yards against the St. Louis Rams on Sunday. He will be a low-end RB1 for the unforeseen future and needs to be owned in every single league and format.

Josh Gordon, WR, Cleveland Browns (77% Y!): Gordon is on this list simply because he is somehow still available in 1/5 of leagues on Yahoo! and needs to be owned in all leagues. He was fantasy football’s No. 1 WR last season despite only playing in 14 games.

Jordan Matthews, WR, Philadelphia Eagles (62% Y!): As pointed out above when writing about Mark Sanchez, the Eagles as a whole had a bad day on Sunday. But Matthews was one of the few bright spots for the Eagles with a line of five receptions, 107 yards and one touchdown (albeit, some of that came in garbage time, but nonetheless). He has stood out as Sanchez’s No. 1 target and has put up back-to-back 100-plus yard games and three touchdowns over the past two weeks. He is a weekly WR2 with a lot of upside. He could be especially useful in fantasy playoffs.

Malcom Floyd, WR, San Diego Chargers (37% Y!): On average (for standard leagues) for the season, Floyd has scored 8.9 points per week. For PPR leagues, he has scored an average of 11.3 points a week. Floyd has been flying low as Rivers’ No. 3 target and put up decent numbers for the season. He can be seen as a mid-tier WR3.

Coby Fleener, TE, Indianapolis Colts (38% Y!): Fleener had a great game on Sunday, finishing with seven receptions on seven targets for 144 yards. Most of his stats came after Dwayne Allen went down with an ankle injury, with which he is day-to-day, according to Stephen Holder of The Indianapolis Star. Fleener would be a great streaming option this week. Grab him if you are in need of a TE.

Charles Clay, TE, Miami Dolphins (55% Y!): Clay has had at least five catches in the past three games and at least 30 yards receiving as well. The TE position in fantasy football is very scarce and because of that, Clay is a high-end TE2 with the potential to be a low-end TE1. That makes him worth owning in leagues and could make him valuable if he improves on his numbers going forward.

Key Fantasy Injuries

Emmanuel Sanders, WR, Denver Broncos: Sanders had to leave Sunday’s game after taking a huge hit to the helmet and was diagnosed with a concussion. For now, leave him in lineups but be sure to have a contingency plan in place for him just in case.

Arian Foster, RB, Houston Texans: Foster was inactive Sunday after he was ruled out Saturday with a groin injury. Being ruled out a day before the game is not a good sign, which means Foster is likely to be questionable for week 12. For now, keep him out of lineups and look for someone else to take his place in your lineups.

Julius Thomas, TE, Denver Broncos: Thomas was forced to leave Sunday’s game with an ankle injury, but he has not been ruled out of Denver’s Week 12 against the Miami Dolphins, according to Mike Klis of The Denver Post. Still, he may end up not playing, so owners should look for a backup plan just in case.

Ahmad Bradshaw, RB, Indianapolis Colts: Bradshaw was carted out on Sunday with what was revealed to be a fractured fibula, head coach Chuck Pagano said on Monday. Bradshaw is likely to be put on injured reserve and can be safely dropped in leagues. Look for Trent Richardson to pick up the bulk of the touches from here on in. (Update: Bradshaw was placed on injured reserve Tuesday.)

Brandin Cooks, WR, New Orleans Saints: Cooks’ agent, Jeff Sperbeck, revealed on Twitter Monday that Cooks will be out four to six weeks after suffering a broken thumb. Cooks can be safely dropped in most leagues, unless you have an IR spot in your league. (Update: Cooks was placed on injured reserve Tuesday, according to a report from ESPN.com’s Field Yates).

Larry Fitzgerald, WR, Arizona Cardinals: Fitzgerald was forced to leave Sunday’s game against the Detroit Lions with a Grade 2 MCL sprain in his right knee. He said on Monday that he intends to play through it, according to Darren Urban of AZCardinals.com, but players are often overly optimistic about their injuries. Fitzgerald should be considered highly questionable to play this weekend against the Seattle Seahawks.

Giovani Bernard, RB, Cincinnati Bengals: Bernard was once again inactive on Sunday with a hip injury. He was spotted working out with the team before the game in a light capacity, according to Coley Harvey of ESPN.com, and has a chance to be back next weekend, but he should remain on benches until further notice.

Delanie Walker, TE, Tennessee Titans: Walker was inactive on Monday night with a concussion. He did not practice last Thursday or Friday and has yet to be cleared for activity. At the very least, he should be considered highly questionable and should not be in any lineups for Sunday unless he is cleared in advance.

Fred Jackson, RB, Buffalo Bills: Jackson was inactive for last Thursday’s game with his lingering groin injury. Jackson and head coach Doug Marrone both expect him to be back for Week 12, according to Chris Brown of BuffaloBills.com. He will most likely be part of a committee as he has been for the past few weeks. He can be viewed as a mid-tier RB3 this weekend.
